EUFLYNET at Wingspan 2024: Addressing Avian Conservation Challenges in the Energy Sector

On October 15th and 16th, members of EUFLYNET had the privilege of attending the Wingspan 2024 conference held in Brussels. This significant event was part of the collaborative efforts under the auspices of three key projects: SafeLines4Birds, aimed at reducing bird mortality caused by power lines; LIFE EUROKITE, dedicated to the conservation of European kites; and LIFE Great Bustard, focusing on the protection of this majestic species .

The gathering brought together scientists and stakeholders from the energy supply industry to discuss these challenges and explore potential solutions. EUFLYNET's involvement was pivotal, providing us with the opportunity to engage in rich discussions, share insights, and connect with leading experts in the field. The event was filled with inspiring talks and lively panel discussions that fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas.

Our participation allowed us to not only contribute to the dialogue but also to forge valuable connections that may lead to productive collaborations that will extend beyond academia to include vital industry and policy dimensions.

In response to the insights gained at the conference, EUFLYNET is excited to announce the formation of a dedicated working group within WG1. This group will focus specifically on continuing the dialogue and development of strategies that emerged from the discussions.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the organizers for hosting such a dynamic and productive conference. Their impeccable coordination made it not only a success but a milestone event for all participants involved.
