The past weeks have been an exciting and productive time for the EUFLYNET community, with major achievements in both capacity building and collaborative research.
WG2: Another Successful Statistical School in Milan
The second edition of the EUFLYNET Statistical School, organized by University of Milan with support of Working Group 2 in Milan, was a great success. Bringing together participants from across the network, the course combined lectures with hands-on practical sessions, providing early-career and experienced researchers alike with advanced statistical skills directly applicable to movement ecology and migration research.
Beyond the scientific programme, the school fostered lively discussions, new collaborations, and valuable networking opportunities. We would like to thank all instructors, organizers, and participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to making this event such a rewarding experience.
WG3: A Major Milestone for the Systematic Map Project
Working Group 3 has also reached an important milestone in its flagship collaborative project. Two years ago, we began developing a systematic map to synthesize demographic research on migratory birds. Thanks to the remarkable efforts of our international team, we have now successfully completed the screening of 47,959 relevant scientific publications.
This achievement reflects the dedication of 126 active contributors from across the network and represents a major step towards creating one of the most comprehensive evidence bases on migratory bird demography.
You can read a detailed update on the project and the completed screening phase here:https://bit.ly/EUFLYNET-update-2026
The next stage—data extraction—will begin in September, and we are still looking for additional contributors. If you would like to join this collaborative effort, please contact the project coordinator, Vojtěch Brlík, at vojtech.brlik@gmail.com. When getting in touch, please briefly introduce yourself, describe your motivation for joining the project, and indicate your current career stage.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to these achievements. Together, we continue to strengthen the EUFLYNET community by combining high-quality training with ambitious collaborative research.
