The next EUFLYNET general meeting will be in Vienna between 23-27 February 2026. We are preparing a very interesting and engaging program, and we look forward to greeting many of you there! While the program is still in preparation, here is some general plan to guide your decision about attending the meeting!
WG1 will focus mostly on involving relevant stakeholders from the policy, education, and social sectors. We will organize talks by a range of diverse stakeholders who can guide researchers into making their work more effective. There will also be a round table discussion to make it very interactive. We are also looking forward to a workshop by Üstüner Birben on the interface between law and action on the ground.
WG2 will invite speakers to draw attention to the importance of capacity building, especially in countries where research on migrant birds is largely underrepresented. They will also make plans for future training modules based on the needs which will be discussed at a round table.
WG3 will continue the literature screening effort with several sessions (including some training for volunteers who still haven't received it). Additionally, side projects will have separate discussions: Diets of the Flyway (Crinan Jarrett), Kestrel project (Petra Sumasgutner), Collision Task Force (Jendrik Windt), ringing database (Ivan Maggini), barn swallow (Susan McKinlay), and a brand-new tracking project introduced by Martins Briedis. We will also have some invited talks to show some exciting results from side projects and beyond.
We are also planning on adding round tables to discuss Species Action Plans and efficient communication, and still have free slots for further proposals from the participants.
On February 27th, we will offer a biologging training school (limited number of participants ~30) by Petra Sumasgutner's team and, depending on request, some field excursions (not covered by COST, so they will be organized if the costs for participants are not too high).
